Carried away

Motherhood is great for sure. But it doesn't come without its challenges. Pacifying a crying baby is one. But doing it when you already are in physical pain and emotional turmoil is a whole different story.
The first 2 weeks are undoubtedly the worst. Your unmentionables are aching, harmones on a ride, so many changes to the body that are simply "happening"...and since these things are involuntary you dont even realize how tiring all of it is until it knocks you down at the end of the day. Very disturbing times when you are not sure of what to do, how to do... you are hoping someone would hold your hand through it but all you get is intangible advice like "you will know what to do when time comes" or "just follow your instincts". Ohhh..."follow the instructions on the label" would have been so much easier. At the end of 2 weeks, you feel like you have accomplished quite a lot cos now you know to distinguish hunger cries from pain cries and you know how to live on sleep that you get in installments. But uh-oh...no time to celebrate... baby is either colicky or has gas trouble. In vrishti's case, she would cry for 3 hrs or so from 8-11 pm every day. Well, there are solutions to all baby problems but its a game of trial and error until you figure out what works and what works best. And all this amidst everyday chores! Thanks to the helping hands of my MIL, I survived.
But one month down the calendar, things get much better. At 1.5 months all the hard work pays off as you see your baby's first real smile. At month number 2, smiles, coos and laughter take over your days. But there are new challenges to face. Shoulder and back aches because of all the lifting (babies weigh slightly more now) So I guess at each stage parents are going to see newer issues and they are going to get past them all. And at each of these stages our children are going to give us unmeasurable joys too.

And did I mention the diet restriction, constipation, tiredness, irritability, hair fall and oops ... one of my stitches had come off after about 2 weeks.
Well, every mother has her labor story. And at the end of it there is a beautiful baby.

Picture of the day... After all the hard talk I wanted to leave you with the image of the light at the end of the tunnel. All is well!!
